The main cause of India’s increase in grain production is due to rainfall in the rainy season and various policies from the government. 

The Ministry of Agriculture’s estimate includes: 

  • Wheat production increased from 98.5 to 98.5 million tons of rice in the same period with a record high yield, but wheat acreage decreased. 
  • Maize production increased from 25.9 million tons to 26.9 million tons, with a record yield of 2.9 tons/ha, compared with 2.7 tons/ha in the previous crop year. 
  • Bean production increased from 23.1 million tons to 24.5 million tons, thanks to the area and the productivity of beans increased. 

13.Seafood

Seafood exports of India reached nearly 1.38 million tons, with a value of 7.08 billion USD in the fiscal year 2017-2018.

In 2004 the 13,000 tons / year Alpuram / Alwye factory closed. The remaining 5 factories all operate at 100% capacity, producing 0.884 million tons of aluminum. 

In 2004 India exploited 10.0 million tons of bauxite, partly used for export.

The main tea regions of India are Darjeeling, Assam and Nilgiri / Conoor. Other regions include Dooars, Sikkim, Terai, Himachal Pradesh (including Kangra and Mandi) and Travancore / Kerala.

India exported 843,255 tons of spices worth Rs 162.38 billion or 2.48 billion USD. 

Chili exports reached the largest turnover with 400,250 tons, worth Rs 50.70 billion, followed by Cumin exports ranked second with 119,000 tons, worth Rs 19.63 billion. Turmeric exports ranked third with 116,500 tons, worth Rs 12.41 billion.
